I don’t know if you’ve noticed but there is something floating about in this period of time. It seems we all have a dose of it too! I have been talking with some of you personally and I’ve come to understand that we are all going through sort of the same thing!

 • What job should i take up?
 • Where should I be going right now?
 • I want to move but where to?
 • I want to be here, but i’m stuck here…

Sound familiar? I think it’s just that time really! As much as it’s good to speak to others about it, we need to lean on something stronger and more powerful than our own understanding, strength and will. Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Whatever it is you’re facing, i’m sure God is not sleeping on it! He delights to hear from us, and whilst we all could be praying for ourselves quietly (sometimes disguised as a complaint to God) there is HUGE POWER in prayer and joint prayer!

SO let’s do it. Starting today we shall begin to pray together. If I have your number I will contact you and arrange a time where we can pray together, or DM me on Instagram @destinyjoelivia | email me :destinymalcolmmusic@gmail.com or text me and let’s make contact! Make use of a prayer partner or if you don’t have one, I will be yours! 🙂

Let’s watch God move!

#StandingonPromises|W2: Your Thoughts Established.

Welcome back to the series #standingonpromises. This week I fancied writing a post rather than filming. Plus I was away from home last week, but here it is! Week 2.

Today I bring you the promise found in Proverbs 16:3

Commit your WORKS to the Lord and He WILL ESTABLISH your thoughts.

Following on from last week’s video, I want to touch on our plans/our purposes and how they are to be fulfilled by God. I think the Spirit is onto something here because these are the promises that keep coming up! Let’s look at the break down of this text:

When you commit to something, you pledge, devote, dedicate, give to that something or someone. But what exactly are we committing? What are these works we are to commit to the Lord?

We know from last week’s promise (Philippians 1:6) if you have a work, a purpose, a thing in your heart that God has put there, you can and must commit this daily to God. For He is the one what will complete it after all! However, it’s more than the thing you want Him to bless in abundance. I believe these works that God is asking us to commit, go further than God’s work or your purpose…
We can use the text in Colossians 3: 23 to gage what He wants from us

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.

You see, its EVERYTHING that we do! We are to commit our works to God, which means, the work we do at school, at church, in the home, at work. The work we do for others, that we might not want to do so we mumble and complain, this is the thing that God expects us to be diligent in. He wants to create in us a spirit of readiness, of perfect doing, and a spirit that will be patience and diligent in all things, just as Jesus was on earth! That’s why Proverbs 16:3 is a promise! It’s a gift to be able to commit everything to God, and then He doubles the blessings by establishing our thoughts.

What Are Your Thoughts?

I find, that the more we focus on God during everything we do, the more our thoughts are kingdom focused. God will not establish thoughts that are not according to His will of course, and so the more we commit every work that we do, to Him, this allows our thoughts to be fine tuned to what truly matters for God and our lives. Then, and only then will out thoughts be worthy of establishment!!

The Application for The Week

Copy of Keynotes Continued (2)Last night I had a dream that I did something so brand new to get to somewhere new. Funny thing is, I kind of climbed out of a small window and took on work that was quite challenging in the time frame I had. You know those weird dreams that don’t make sense but they link to life – this was one of them.

I think the point of the dream was that this week, I’m going to have to make moves like never before. This week I have decided I will not give up hope! I have a bad tendency to say “oh never mind, forget it. It doesn’t matter”

Is that you too?

I don’t think that attitude will get us very far. God has not given us a spirit of fear that we should fear the outcome of our boldest choices, nor should be fear the disappointment or rejection we may or may not face. Instead He has give us a sound mind that knows where to go, what to place as the highest priority, and a spirit of love, that will enable us to see the biggest picture of life- to love God and love man (including ourselves, no matter what anyone else says about us or God!)

I will let you into a secret! I’m starting a campaign, to help me advance in my music ministry, and there are a whole bag of ideas that need to come to life so that this campaign will be as fruitful as it can be. Yes God has the best plans but we must start with something, and allow God to navigate the direction. So that’s what i’m doing. I need to make calls, ask questions, do some scary things in order to lift this campaign off the ground. And so,

I will work hard and I pray harder! My thoughts WILL be established.

I hope you feel encouraged to do the same this week. As always message me on Instagram if you want to chat more. I love hearing from you!

Stay Blessed,

S/S Journals: e.2|Singing in Spain

S (1)

Welcome to the second entry of #dssjournals aka Singer/Songwriter Journals. It’s all about me, singing in front of about 2000 people in a little area of Valencia!

congress 2

Adventist European Youth Congress – The Journey- Feria Valencia

The conference began on the 5th Aug, when My friends and I went there to register. I got my name tag and wrist band (which i always forgot and had to prove to the staff that i was most definitely DESTINY MALCOLM and not some random stranger that stole Destiny Malcolm’s name tag).

I was to perform at the Arts Festival on Saturday afternoon- the last day of the conference and so the night before, i went back stage to see what guitar they had for me and where i needed to be the next day. The Saturday (Sabbath) Came! I’d been so exhausted from leaving the conference late the night before, that i was basically sleep walking, which is never good for your vocals :(. By lunch time i’d woken up though..

Upon getting to the hall where sound check was held, I made my presence known and sat down twiddling my thumbs. Daniel was with me which was a massive help because sound checks in big venues never get old and I needed a familiar face. While I waited for the guitar to be available, we took pictures.. duh.

I saw a few performers and got to speak with one- Laura from Hungary. She’s a total babe, and dances like an angel. I fell in love instantly because her sound track was Ludivico Einaudi and he’s my fave pianist ever!

Before my sound check, i had a quick run through of my song whilst desperately needing the toilet! As you do, i forgot the words (to my own song!) so it took me a while to get into the frame of mind. Once i was in flow I had a good lil run through before i had to rush off again.

rehearse 2

Finally it was my turn to sound check. If you know anything about sound checks you know they can be your biggest nightmare really. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I got called on stage, and began to strum the guitar and sing into the mic as the lady on stage adjusted things around me. I sang the chorus 1.5 times and a bit of the verse and then it was over! It lasted about 5 mins, and as for the sound… It SOUNDED AWFUL. To me anyways. The head guy reassured me that it will always sound bad from where i am standing but its perfect out there. I said okay, and that i will play as best i know how with confidence then 🙂 HA! I think that was true 😉

rehearse 3

As i got back stage, i felt extremely overwhelmed. My head began to sting with pain, my eyes burning and knees shaking. What was going on? I didn’t ever get shaky knees before a performance!? I’m usually fine. The first person went up and as i heard the strum of his guitar i honestly thought i was going to throw up

😐 🤢 😰

I took a seat on the sofa, and closed my eyes, hoping to relax myself as i was on in about 3, 4 acts. I saw my friend from Croydon and thought yess a familiar voice/face. I went over to him and told him how nervous i was! He reassured me that i’m going to be fine and i started to believe it again.

I did my fave deep breathing exercise, to regulate my heart beat again and started some basic yoga stretches. I saw my friend from Hungary and she began stretching too which was fun. I self-talked my way into confidence and prayed a bold prayer.

“Dest, you’re great. God wouldn’t bring you here if you were not capable. Go out there and own ur stuff!!”

This was it. The moment. I got on stage and played the intro-missed my cue but that was no biggie. As the 2000 or so people began clapping OUT OF TUNE to my folk song His Name is Hope, I started to smile. I sang and played like i knew i could and nailed it!

sound check

I still feel like there could have been greater vocal moments but i mean, it was live, in front of a HUGE audience- my biggest yet. I wasn’t about to complain. Afterwards went round back to sleep, on the floor with my earphones in- i was gone! Later though I went to show my face at the stage side and met some really cool people who enjoyed my stuff.

We started talking and i gave them a card. Oh btw, they are basically models and we had a mini photo shoot 😉 Sonja & Mikael are a beautiful couple from Finland! Scroll over to get their Instagram details.

S/S Journals: ep1 | The Forest Q&A

Hey loves!!IMG_20170714_170010_932

It’s Destiny! Back on the blog with some personal info about my artistry! I went to the beautiful forest earlier this month, and decided to film a nice lil Q&A about my music, as well as another version of my latest song His Name Is Home (with an added bridge). This is not on YouTube so you guys will get the exclusive forest hook up soon and very soon (like my Facebook page so you don’t miss it! 🙂

I’ve answered a few basic questions here, before you dive into the Q&A video. It’s full of funny questions, embarrassing moments, difficult chords and a bit of dancing… lol. Enjoy!

How long have you been a s/s?

I’ve been singing & writing songs for 17yrs!!! Or 15yrs as a solo artist 🙂 Gosh that seems like such a long time but it basically means i’ve been at it my whole life!

Why did you start playing guitar?

I had been learning to play the clarinet in high school, but i soon realised it was a battle i didn’t want to fight, (that whole lip blowing thing…I couldn’t). Anyways, I knew that i wanted to play and sing at the same time, and whilst doing music classes in year 8, I was introduced to the guitar! My wonderful music teacher Mr Edwards (shout out) said I was something of a natural, and when I told him i wanted to really play, he GAVE ME A GUITAR! I was so chuffed and he set me up with my own guitar lessons – a real MVP that guy. Soon after I had a number of lessons I became a faster learner other people had joined my class, so i decided to teach myself. I took a book and CD from my local library and learnt those legendary tunes by the likes of Don McLean *sings* byeee byeee miss American pie… Honestly, those 3-chord 4-chord patterns are THE BEST! They got me strumming like a pro in no time.

Any regrets/struggles along the way?

Not learning music theory from the beginning nor taking music lessons from early. I wish I’d started early! However, i’m now on route and it’s never too late guys, don’t be fooled. These two things have made it somewhat challenging in areas of my ministry, yet the show must go on and i love my music so there’s no stopping me! 🙂

Want to know more? See the video for more questions and answers. Don’t forget to like & subscribe!

Thank’s for watching my lovelies. Stay tuned for more S/S Journals episodes, on here and on my channel, where I will be showing you guys what it’s like to write my own songs, scrapping the bits i dislike and all that inspirational jazz.

Stay Blessed,

Using Affirmations to Help with Anxiety

Blog Art Work (1)

Hello Lovely People!

Welcome back to another post. I’m super excited to be sharing something that is very dear to my heart. Today’s post is a short guide for using affirmations in your spiritual life.

I am a person who thinks through her fingers, which means I write EVERYTHING down to rid me of a headache. Affirmations come into play, often when I’m feeling worried or anxious about something, and i’m sure you can agree with me that words are very very powerful. Because they are so powerful, I use affirmations to affirm my unsteady heart of the promises that God has given me through His Word, or facts that I know to be true, rather than telling myself stories of lies.

A lot of the time, the anxiety we experience comes from what we feed our minds; how we perceive a situation that makes us feel a certain way. For example…

Instead of saying

“I have so much to do and i’m so behind, i’m going to flop this goal now…”

Try saying

I’ve made good progress recently, and I will continue to progress towards my goal, despite the running clock!”

Something along those lines. You see, you’re not lying to yourself when you affirm yourself of the facts present. You don’t know the future so telling yourself stories of what might happen is not going to help. I struggle with anxiety first thing in the morning at around 7am. It’s when my brain wakes up and says

Me: *heart palpitations as i tell myself to go back to sleep because you’ve just finished a whole degree and its now time for a lie in…*

I have had to start waking up, getting my journal out and writing certain affirmations down. Even before I sleep i get everything out on paper as to reduce that noise in the morning.

See the link below: I have written out my fave affirmations to use when i feel pressed for time and i know i just need to chill out and trust God. It’s printable! And there is a space for you to add your own at the bottom if you want to 🙂

Let me know how you get on with them, take pictures of them on your wall, write your own and share on insa (tag me @destinyjoelivia) or use the hashtag #keynotesoflife

I have uploaded a video where I talk more about the context of these particular affirmations so watch that here!

Until next time…Stay Blessed,

No Foundation Summer Glow Makeup

Blog Art Work

Hey! It’s been a while since i’ve written for this blog, I must apologise. My excuse? I’ve been working for aStepFWD and so I have a load of posts to create (hello procrastination or just crazy overwhelm). Still, it’s good to be back and writing of something SUMMER related!

Recently I shared my fave summer make up products on my InstaStory, and that same morning I’d filmed the process for my channel. So here, I present to you, a quick and simple makeup look, featuring products all below £10 and non of which should make you feel yucky and sweaty. Oh and the best part is, there’s no foundation involved!! YASS.

IMG_20170627_200929_761 (1)

First up I started with my base: NYX ILLUMINATOR

When the sun started to show its full face here in Britain, I decided I wanted to give my skin a break from the foundation vibes. I turned to Bare Minerals because I heard they got that invisible-feeling-kinda foundation going, but I don’t wear it that much to spend such money! Student and all. I went to The Body Shop, to try their foundation, natural, fairly priced, i also had a discount to use there, but again, i wanted to come away from foundation all together. So then I tried their Insta Glow products -couldn’t get the right shade, so i left that store!

That’s when I thought about NYX at Boots. I went to look at their stand and saw this beauty below. I tried the other shades but i figured this would be a nice shade for the coverage illusion- i was right!

Here are 3 reasons why I love Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator:
IMG_20170627_204424_6021. Its silky. I dot it on my face and the QUICKLY smooth it into my skin with my fingers for the best effect. If you leave the product to dry for a second it creates more work for you to work into your skin, but that’s not all bad!

2. It’s lightweight. For me, the best makeup is that which you don’t feel peeling off your skin in the heat! I apply about 2 layers (and a half if i’m feeling extra glowy) and still, my skin can breath!

3. It’s versatile. You could actually buy all three shades and do a glowy madness with just them. I experimented with this and use it for my coverage, and to brighten my under eyes, and sometimes i might use it under my brows. It’s perfect really.

Also, it’s lasting me quite a while!! BONUS!

Next: This crazy cheap but super effective…

I’d previously been using the Sleek contour kit, the one that actually looks just the same as this one. When I ran out, I wanted to see if i could find something a bit less matte and that would give me more of a fresher look. Then I strolled into Superdrug and found this beauty for… wait for it… £3.50!>!>!>!?!?!?!

Here are 3 reasons why this wins:

1. It’s Shimmers. If you’re looking for a good contour, but one that doesn’t make you look dusty or dully, then this is a shout. It’s got a shimmer to it, but it’s not ridiculous looking-its okay trust me. You can see the lightest shade, is very very light, and so I only dab dab small small into this shade. It does just the job, especially for that nose highlight.

2. The bronzer is just my absolute babe. It gives me so much warmth! Put’s that healthy colour back into your skin for sure.

3. It’s cheap as chips. Yet i’d say it was great quality. Compared to the Sleek kit, i’d say this one is more warm, and glowy, with a bit more consistency to it’s powder.

After doing bits with this palette, I moved onto the beast of the bunch…

I found this baby on sale when I was browsing through New Look’s accessories. I thought, this is so golden, I just can’t leave it here! I had to snatch it up into my basket, and when I tried it on my skin at home, I again, fell in love. I’ve had it for a few months now and it never gets boring. Sometimes I use both this as a highlighter as well as the one from the palette above, or sometimes i just stick with this one. Honestly just look…

Here are 3 reasons why this is the bomb:

1. It’s pretty. Just look at the marble effect it has. I don’t know if that’s because it’s baked, but It’s beautiful!

2. It’s VERY golden. It’s that highlight that every girl just needs. I haven’t tried it as an eye shadow (because i don’t wear it that much), but I’m loving the glow it gives my cheekbones xxxxxxx

3. It’s Inexpensive. I got this on sale for £2, but now it’s not even that much more. It last a long time and it’s not prone to break and smash like my others have 😦 😦 😦 It may come out of the container but it wont break up which is fab!

get yourself one of these beauties pleeaaseee!

A Binding Word For A Broken World

It is no coincidence that life’s tragedies come around more frequently than ever, with almost no time to heal from the last hurt. Still, it’s shocking when we see it on the news, and the photos on the TL, and the loss of hope in the world’s eyes. I’m sorry.

In a time like this, what can we say? Sometimes, words are not enough! But sometimes, there are words that might some up the pictures… This song has been the very sentiments of my heart recently. This song, I believe is about humanity, the world at large and how it interacts with life’s happenings. Here are some reasons why I chose to share it.

7.pngIt’s simple, yet effective. The verses tell only a few stories of our reality, yet they seem to paint a picture of it all, at least for me anyway. The minimal music and the pauses in between the lines, add something- a silence that speaks louder than any voice could.

It’s relevant. After hearing of the fire in London, I asked my friend (who lives close by) if he was okay. (He was okay) He was telling me how much he loves his community because of how they pull together. “Strong community” he called it, and that’s what we’ve been seeing! People doing and giving all they can and more, its unity. No matter what race, gender, difference, we unite to help.

6.pngIt’s reflective. Everyone would like to think they are loving, kind and selfless- I know I do! Yet, our actions are sometimes so far from it. And so, the rhetorical question will we be, who we’ve always said we are? Causes us to think about our lives. Yes it relates to the lost lives and evil doing, yet this question can apply to our our daily living. The amount of time we spend with family while they are still here, the friends we decided to visit when we had the time, the times you MAKE time- for your own wellness as well as your relationships!

I love how this song speaks of the good/unity that we are capable of!

It also reminds me that God sees, and His heart also breaks. Your prayers are not in vein!

The fact that I am broken when you are broken, tells us that we are not indifferent to the injustice, the evil doing and the hate in our world. For that we should be grateful. It’s this that moves us to action…

Yes, there will still be pain, heartache and evil, but there will always be love, community and hope! This post is for the world, letting you know that your heart will see brighter days. But for now, we are with you, thinking, praying, acting… because that’s all we can do.

Much Love,

Dest x

When females empower females

“Ladies this is life, we are all completely different. You’re unique and I am unique. You’re good at A and B and I’m good at C and D. Competing with each other is a frivolous exercise!”

Diary of a maverick

There is so much truth in this quote by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (which I’m sure you’ve probably heard in Beyonce’s song Flawless)…

‘We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs or accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men.’

If you get a chance go read her book. I’m not saying I agree with everything within it, however it certainly made me think and question my views. But on this point I completely agree, society has pitted us females against each other, especially when it comes to men.

So what sparked this post? A few months ago I walked into the female toilets and heard some teenagers talking. There conversation went somewhere along the lines of…

Girl 1: ‘Do you think she’s pretty.’ Girl 2: ‘Hmmm.’ The three girls proceed to laugh aloud. Girl 3: ‘Well she’s not a…

Friday Music Round Up: Top 5 – Hillsong United

Hey Guys,

Since I’ve been tuning into Hillsong United TV ALL WEEK, I want to share with you the 5 most played music videos (plus a bonus #newdiscovery). They were not hard to choose, but to chart them, they were not so easy. They are all amazing and I love them either for the video production, lyrics, music performance or just the whole lot! Hope you’re blessed and don’t forget to come back next week for another music round up. I launch the Friday top chart fortnightly on my Facebook page DESTINY MALCOLM MUSIC·

#5: “What A Beautiful Name”

I played this song everyday this week I think, just so I could proclaim the AWESOMENESS of JESUS at the top of my lungs. One of the perks of being a loner right ;).

Fave Lyric: “You have no rival, You have no equal, now and forever God you reign!”

#4: “Empires”

I also watched the Hillsong Movie [Let Hope Rise] this week, which you can buy digitally (yay) and I loved seeing the work that was put into the lyrics of this song. They work so hard to bring light to the realness of their experience with God. Metaphors are mad!

Fave Lyrics: “We are…silhouettes and reflections, caught in His holy flame”. “This is love, bending skies to heal the broken, this is love, bleeding life into the grave.” – okay the whole song is filled with greatness.

#3: “Behold (Then Sings My Soul)”

A sort of adaptation of How Great Thou Art, again the lyrics are beautiful. I particularly love the music though, the chords, the live sound, it makes me want to be there, worshipping with them! Its a lovely go-to worship song from Hillsong.

Fave lyric: “The things of earth stand next to Him, like a candle to the sun” – Beautiful!

#2 “Oceans (Where feet may fail)”

I had to place this at #2 because of the GENIUS filming. So they are on.. the sea of Galilee, which is obviously very fitting for the message of this song. Everyone who didn’t know them before, surely knows Hillsong because of “Oceans”, and what a lovely acoustic rendition. (Team Taya btw)

Fave Lyric: “Spirit lead me where my trust is without boarders.” – That’s such a bold request but mine nevertheless.

#1: “Touch The Sky”

Okay, so when this album came out, I was so excited because 1. Taya’s vocals are so crisp and 2. They really did a perfect job of filming and recording these songs, at the various key spots where Jesus walked. This song is number 1 simply because of the whole thing! The lyrics are freeing, I can pray them as my sincere prayer, they look so comfortable and zoned, up on that mountain (ratings) and the music is again, perfect. I love this whole album – a combination of some of their best songs, written, performed and captured in such an authentic way.

Fave Lyrics: “I touch the sky, when my knees hit the ground.” “I bought the world & sold my heart, You traded Heaven to have me again!”

Check out more “Live from The Land” videos here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?li… and be sure to listen to the whole album on Spotify – Hillsong United, Of Dirt & Grace (Live From The Land)

Bonus (New Discovery) Phil Wickham – “The Secret Place” ft. Madison Cunningham

I’ve not heard of Phil before, and listening to some of his songs I cant say that i’m a ROD listener. However, I was so zoned into this performance. The song lyrics speak to my heart VERY loudly, and Madison’s voice is, ahh! I was excited. My fave part of this song is the end of the bridge, where they invert their harmonies. Can we just appreciate how calm they were. She did this well, i’m happy I found this, and you might just see me cover it sometime ;).
Stay Blessed,

Take The Rest 20/08/16 09:00am

Sometimes, routines can become overwhelming and taxing on your holistic health. Even going to church week after week can drain you, rather than invigorate you. Remember, you can’t bless others when you’re all out of fuel. You need to rest & recuperate. Today i’m taking the opportunity.

mediate in natureDon’t be afraid to step out into your local park or just your garden, and take in the beauty that speaks only of God’s love. Remind yourself of the God who is bigger than what’s bothering you right now. Romans 1:20

You may have had a trying week. Might have done some things, said a few words that could have been different. Take time to reflect, pray and move forward with a new mind. Psalm 51:10, Philippians 2:5

bible & notebook

It doesn’t take much really; just an open heart and and open mind to what God has for you that day. God’s holy word can give you answers, direction, encouragement and much more. Take time to enjoy that personal quality-quiet time with your Maker. Psalm 37:3,4

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
