Mornings and ‘Me Days’ : Marvelous Molasses

Blackstrap Molasses comes from raw sugar cane production and canned sugar refining. so it’s fairly sweet, and tastes a bit like liquorice.

Here’s how I use it:

  • I drink it- a couple of table spoons in my morning warm water with some lemon sets me up for the day!
  • I put it on my face – with slightly cooked (using water) oats I mix together and make a pasty face mask. It’s very stick and quite thick so cover up and be careful!

  • I eat it! I’m sure there are many meals you can add Molasses to, but i put it in my oats porridge. Not too much! Just about half a tbs. It’s so yummy! (and it looks like chocolate even though it’s not :p)
  • I use it as a hair mask- roughly once every two months. It keeps my hair soft and revives my curls. I apply after I’ve had a weave or extensions in, and after I’ve washed and conditioned.

It contains iron, calcium, copper, manganes, magnesium, selenium and B6

“With no fat and very few calories, molasses is a better alternative for contributing iron content in the body as compared to other fatty sources like red meat.” (Earth Clinic, 2015)

So you can see how great it is, ESPECIALLY if you are

1.dairy free 🙂

2.If you often feel tired and lethargic 😦

3. If you want to build up your immune system. Who doesn’t?

FACE LIFT ANYONE?

Molasses contains lactic acid, which helps in relieving the symptoms of acne. I don’t have acne but i find it leaves my skin feeling refreshed, hydrated and smooth after using it in a face mask. After a session of ‘beautification via Molasses’ twice a week (if my skin feels poor) or three times a month by routine, i’m always super happy with the results.

As I call it- laughing (hahahaha) Acid- or Lactic acid, is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA)

“AHAs are acids derived from foods, and, as it turns out a type of acid that’s safe to apply to our skin” (Trimarchi, 2012).

Lemons and Oranges contain this acid too, I would advise you dilute these if you want to apply them directly to your skin, it can burn after a while.

Where do I get Blackstrap Molasses from?

I don’t live too far from Wolverhampton Town Center – The Healing Place. I usually buy it from there. Alternatively, I’m pretty sure other health stores sell it too!

I don’t really have anything negative to say about Marvelous Molasses, rather, try it out and see if it works for you.

All the best!

Thinking Too Far Ahead

Okay, so i’m a deep thinker. I like to process all information received in a sort of linear fashion. You might be like this too!

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be organised and knowing what your next move will be during the day. However, i have learnt that the hidden danger of this innocent trait can become greatly overwhelming.

I tend to plan my entire week on one day, jotting down what tasks needed to be done, what kind of goals i wanted to achieve, that kind of stuff. Eventually i became obsessed with it all. It got to a point where i c o u l d  n o t  function properly during the day if i hadn’t attempted to ‘plan’ my whole life for the coming days ahead.

It was crazy!

I would crave a pen and paper to write almost EVERYTHING down- sometimes necessarily- which can get a little annoying when you have 2347 sticky notes lying around your room!

It wasn’t until recently that i thought maybe i could think about toning it down a notch! I was planning something quite exciting for a few days away and I began asking my mum tons of questions, pen and paper in hand. Eventually she said…

I haven’t thought that far ahead Destiny!

and it was then that i realized maybe I should just think about today too. And leave it at that.

With prayer, I started limiting my list-making to one per day, depending on… NOTHING! I started to block my thoughts from wondering onto further pages of my busy diary. Focusing on the here and now.

I found this quite tricky, but that was okay. Why was i allowing this to become deeper than it actually was?

Here is what i discovered.

Matthew 6:34 says “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

God knew that each day would be fairly challenging for us in some way or another-causing us to call upon Him at every given moment in order to maintain Peace beyond belief!

I found that i could indeed go a whole day without thinking too deeply about the next, and saw that my tasks were completed, and the quality of effort i put into each of them was somewhat greater than it would be had my mind been preoccupied with ‘tomorrows thoughts’.

Trust God with your life. Your plans. Your tomorrows. Your next weeks!

  • He DOES answer prayers in ways that may be tricky to understand at first (it gets better)
  • He takes no pleasure in your hurt, stress or worry. (“Run to Jesus”)

Matthew 11:28 – Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

  • He IS all seeing. All knowing. and Always around!
